Walking distance to both the Old City and the Jerusalem city center are very important. However, these days, especially with the building of the Jerusalem Light Railway in the city center, it's not particularly pleasant to walk the length of Jaffa Road - which is nothing more than a huge building site. Nowadays, Emek Rafaim and the new Mamilla Mall are equally important centers, and Jerusalem hotels that are close to these two locations are also worth considering. The Mamilla shopping mall connects the Southern end of Jaffa Road to the Jaffa Gate of the Old City. Emek Refaim is South of the Liberty Bell Gardens, and features a large variety of restaurants and shops. It's about the closest that Jerusalem has to a typical high street. Given all the above, Jerusalem hotels located at the city entrance have the least favorable location. Being close to the Israel Museum and the Givat Ram University complex is not the same as overlooking the Old City walls. |
